Pastoral Care and Wellbeing
PUPIL WELLBEING AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is our key strength at Thomas’s Fulham and is integrated into every aspect of school life. We view pastoral care and curriculum excellence as inseparable; both are seamlessly woven into the fabric of our school culture to support the whole child.
We have an extensive pastoral team made up of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Head of Lower School and Assistant Head Prep School, Head of Learning Support and Enrichment, Year Leads, School Counsellor and Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs). Our robust pastoral support is a collaboration between the school and families.

The Thomas’s Values
We aim to equip our pupils with values that will serve them long after they leave Thomas’s Fulham. These values are reinforced daily and are embedded within the school, informing how we teach, learn, play and resolve conflict.
- Kindness and ‘Givers Not Takers’
- Courtesy and Compassion
- Scholarship and Perseverance
- Integrity and Respect
- Confidence and Leadership
By embedding these principles into the school’s DNA, we have created a community where children grow into well-rounded, thoughtful and resilient people.
A Culture of Care: Staff-Pupil Relationships
We strive to ensure every child feels known, seen, valued and supported by a strong pastoral network.
- Staff use the Zones of Regulation to help children identify their mood and develop self-regulation skills. Every morning, they ‘check-in’, letting their teacher know how they feel and if they want a private chat.
- Class teachers act as the primary advocate for each child, forming strong relationships with the children in their class and their parents/carers.
- Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) and our School Counsellor are also on hand for specialised pastoral care.
Pastoral Curriculum
Our PSHE (Personal Social Health Education) curriculum, ‘Learning for Life,’ is an integral part of our pastoral framework, helping pupils to develop emotional literacy. Our programme explores age-appropriate topics including Wellbeing and Resilience, Healthy Relationships and Active Citizenship.
Weekly Lower School and Prep School assemblies play an important role in our pastoral care by bringing pupils together to nurture a sense of community and reinforce teaching on values and wellbeing.
Children are extremely happy and overall considerate of each other and the world. The school seems to help them flourish and become very decent young people. The sense of community that permeates the school contributes to create a serene, warm and welcoming environment that fills children with confidence
